8 HUGE Mistakes You Make in Learning

2 1

[ Learn continually. There’s always “one more thing” to learn!]

If you are an adult learner, it’s likely that you’ve made at least one of the following mistakes before, even if you didn’t realize it at the time…

… it can be hard to tell which mistakes you’re making, so you might not recognize the issues until you get further along in your learning.

Knowing what not to do can be more valuable than knowing what to do.

Luckily, if you catch these common mistakes early on, you can correct them before they become habits that are hard to break later.

Here are 8 of the most common mistakes people make when they’re trying to learn something new and how to avoid them.

#1 Skips the Fundamentals

Well, namang iba pang version dito.

Most of the time alam naman natin ang “Fundamentals”, the mistake we make is that we look at the foundation and say…

Ah! That’s easy! Let’s move on.

Alam ko na yaaan! Wala na bang ibang bago?

Oh, basic lang yan. Next na tayo!

Tanungin mo ang mga top-level na coach, mga high-performing athlete, kung paano nila narating kung nasaan man sila ngayon, and isa lang ang sasabihin nila sa iyo, master the fundamentals first.

Ngunit marahil para sa iyo they seem boring, you already know them, and it would be like a waste of time to practice something so basic, and that’s where the mistake happens. Like you skip a chapter of a book and now you don’t know who’s who.

So ang gagawin mo ngayon, babalikan mo.. ire-rephrase mo ang iyong steps and see what you’ve missed! But of course, you are already too deep.

“Skipping fundamentals creates bad happens, you’ll learn something based on a vague idea and you winged it.” And the only way to fix your mistakes is to basically forget everything and start from scratch. So yes, master the fundamentals first.

#2 Too much in a One Take

Nakahanap ka ng isang bagay na talagang nakaka-excite sa iyo, you can’t stop reading about it, ni hindi mo naaalala ang huling pagkakataon na nakaramdam ka ng labis na pagkahilig sa isang bagay. Maybe you finally found your thing and the search is over.

It’s a wonderful feeling but this is when another huge mistake can happen.

Why?

Sa labis na pagka excite mo, hindi mo na napigilian pa ang iyong sarili na maghanap pa ng mas madaming kaalaman, like, you couldn’t stop watching YT videos about the thing yesterday, and today, you don’t even want to hear about it. Mararamdaman mo na you need a break from it.

A day passes, 2 days, a week, at sasabihin mo sa sarili mo na you will look eventually back to work….

… but you never will.

So ano nga ba ang mali dito?

You overdose with the knowledge. There is such a thing that is overtraining you.

So ano ang gusto kong ipunto dito?

“Face yourself daily, do enough to feel like you’ve made some progress, but leave enough for tomorrow to keep yourself excited.”

#3 You don’t Put it into Practice

Pretty self-explanatory.

If may new knowledge kang nalaman o natutunan, or sa tingin mo na need mong I practice at I apply sa iyong sarili, DO IT.

Trust me.

And if along the way is naka experienced ka ng pagkakamali, alam mo na ang gagawin sa susunod. 😊

#4 Not being Consistent

A big mistake people make when learning something new is not being consistent.

“Skipping days or taking long breaks will only make it harder to pick back up where you left off.”

#5 Focusing on too many Topics/Courses at Once

3 1 1

Yes, nakakaakit na gustong matutunan ang lahat nang sabay-sabay, especially when there are so many resources available.

However, focusing on too many things will make it harder to learn anything effectively.

Napakagandang ideya na mag focus muna sa isang bagay then master it before moving on.

#6 You Look for Shortcuts

There are no shortcuts when it comes to learning.

Any shortcut attempt will only lead to frustration and a long road to mastery.

#7 Expecting Success Overnight

It takes time to learn anything new. You can’t expect to be an expert right away.

Always remember…

Give yourself some grace to understand that it will take some time to get good at whatever you’re trying to learn.

Patience is key when learning something new.

#8 You don’t have a Good Reason to Learn

This is the bread and butter of why people don’t take up learning, they simply don’t have a good reason to.

It should make you feel inspired and motivated, hanapin ang pinaka dahilan kung bakit gusto mong matuto and trust me… learning will become 10x easier. 😊

There are no shortcuts.
WORK HARD, BE PATIENT, CONSISTENT, AND NEVER GIVE UP.
