Breaking Old Habits and Making New Ones

Why is it hard to break old habits?

A habit is a subconscious thing you do regularly like brushing your teeth, taking a bath, typing in your cellphone, etc.

May dalawang mahahalagang bagay na dapat natin tandaan when understanding our habits.

That’s why they say, old habits die hard.

So how do we break our old habits and make new ones?

Make a decision and stick to it!

The most important thing in making change happen is your decision. Lahat ay nagsisimula sa desisyon.

Siguraduhin mo lang na ito talaga ang gusto mong gawin o baguhin then make a firm decision to pursue that change.

You cannot unlearn. Create an alternative activity.

Malabo.

That is why the principle that you cannot unlearn things is true.

With the exemption of amnesia ah. Ibang usapan yun. You have to create an alternative activity with your bad habit.

Kaya nga yung ibang gusto mag-quit ng smoking, they buy nicotine gums para may alternative na ginagawa yung bibig nila every time they feel the urge to smoke.

Palagi ka bang tinatamad gumising ng maaga?

Find an activity that will force you to wake up early.

Take a job that will require you to be in the office by 8:00am or simply move all your important schedules in the morning.

So, if you want to change a bad habit and make new ones, MAKE A DECISION to do so and make it final.

Accept it and stick to it.

Second, create an alternative activity over your bad habit. But to make sure that your alternative activity will work effectively and will be your “new habit”, make sure to do it steadily for a minimum of 90 days.

Because according to studies, it takes at least 90 days of consistency to form a new habit.
